Welcome to the Nawautin Nature Sanctuary
Nestled at the mouth of the Grafton Creek on the shores of Lake Ontario,
you'll find one of Northumberland's jewels.
The Nawautin Nature Sanctuary was constructed some 20 years ago and is watched over, and cared for, by an Association of Northumberland residents.
It features a series of inter-connected ponds, a waterfall, nesting islands, and several walking trails.

The name Sanctuary denotes an area of rural peace and tranquility, ideal for passive, year-round recreation.
The area features over 30 species of birds and a variety of native flora and fauna.
The Sanctuary is accessible from Lakeshore Road via Keewatin Dr., and via Nawautin / Shawano Drives. It is 3 kms south of Grafton.
To maintain the nature of the area, there are a few rules we ask visitors to follow. They are outlined on signs at the entrances to the Sanctuary. Amoung others, no motorized vehicles are allowed, we remind dog owners of the poop and scoop rule and, of course, the removal of beach gravel, plants and trees is forbidden.
The Association asks you to:
LEAVE ONLY YOUR FOOTPRINTS;
TAKE ONLY YOUR MEMORIES.
