Welcome to Alnwick/Haldimand Township Heritage Cemeteries Advisory Board
The Board is responsible for the maintenance and restoration of six "abandoned" pioneer cemeteries in the Township, under provisions of the Ontario Cemeteries Act. The deeds of these cemeteries have now passed to the Township and the Township provids a budget for yearly maintenance of the grounds, as well as some funds for the restoration of gravestones.
In reality the work to find buried gravestones, repair them and re-site them is a very expensive enterprise, averaging $1,000 each. Typically, within the six cemeteries, the Board will recover five stones per year. For this they use the professional help of Campbell Monuments.

Click on any of the above for a brief history of the cemetery. Visitors are welcome to the cemeteries, but are asked to take great care and not, in any way, interfere with the stones. Please appreciate that the text on the stones is weathered and difficult to read, and many stones cannot be found or have broken beyond recognition.
